Baba au Rum

1/4 cup sugar*
2 tablespoon water*
2/3 cup rum
4 original glazed Krispy Kreme donuts, or other glazed donuts of your choice
2/3 cup whipping cream, very cold
Combine sugar and water in a small saucepot and set over high heat. Bring to a boil and when the sugar is dissolved, turn off the heat. Stir rum into the sugar syrup. With a serrated knife, carefully split each donut in half crosswise. With a pastry brush, heavily soak the cut side of each half with rum syrup. In an electric mixer, whip cream until stiff peaks form. Fill a pastry bag, fitted with a large star tip, with the cream. Onto the rum soaked surface of the bottom half of each donut, pipe about 1/4 of the whipped cream. Top each half with its counterpart so that the uncut side is up and serve.
